Sensors to provide tyre data

It’s safe to say that Goodyear loves concepts. Alongside the eco-friendly Oxygene tyre and a prototype for electric vehicles, the American tyre manufacturer has also presented a connected solution for fleets at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

Based on the “Chip in Tyre” concept developed by subsidiary Dunlop, this technology relays information to a mobile application. Sensors in the tyre structure work with cloud based algorithms to interpret key data in real-time. Information on tyre ID and status are continuously updated and shared directly with fleet managers.

Connected technology for shared mobility

Pressure, wear, vehicle load, temperature… the technology will communicate a wealth of useful information to fleet managers. This will enable them to anticipate problems and proactively manage tyre maintenance, which is critical to both the customer experience and the economic management of fleet operations.

Goodyear says that it is working to anticipate the needs of shared mobility, an area which is expected to continue growing. According to the Research Division of the Morgan Stanley bank, “In 2015, the number of shared kilometres accounted for 4% of global kilometres travelled. It should exceed 25% by 2030”.

“As the face of mobility continues to evolve, so will the needs of consumers and fleet operators,” added Chris Delaney, President of Goodyear EMEA. “Goodyear is anticipating the products, services and experiences that will deliver the mobility that consumers and fleet operators need.”
